In recent months, the avian influenza pandemic has resulted in the loss of tens of millions of birds worldwide.
USA – As bird flu outbreaks continue to ravage poultry operations globally, U.S.-based Avian Enterprises, LLC, is stepping forward with a novel solution aimed at curbing the spread of the disease.
The company has unveiled Avian Migrate® Goose and Bird Repellant, a product designed to help poultry producers build biosecurity barriers between domestic chickens and virus-carrying wild birds.
Announced this week, the new product arrives at a critical time. In recent months, the avian influenza pandemic has resulted in the loss of tens of millions of birds, significantly disrupting egg supplies and driving up prices worldwide.
Avian Migrate® aims to prevent wild waterfowl—known carriers of the virus—from coming into contact with areas frequented by chickens.
“The problem is real and spreading, and it is imperative that potential solutions be swift and effective,” said Steve Stone, Executive Vice President of Avian Enterprises. “Our answer is to keep infected birds away while maintaining the health and security of existing chicken populations, placing a veritable bio-barrier between both.”
Developed with support from agricultural research and drawing on the company’s proven technologies, Avian Migrate® contains ingredients approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), including compounds commonly found in food products.
It is applied in a light mist around poultry facilities and grassy areas up to 300 feet from the barn zones where wild geese and ducks often congregate.
Sensory and visual deterrent
What sets the product apart is its InvisiDye® technology—a marker visible only to birds within the 200-400mm spectrum.
This component serves as both a sensory and visual deterrent, providing wild birds with a signal to avoid the treated areas without affecting the surrounding environment or the chickens.
The launch follows the success of Avian Control®, a related bird deterrent that was recently evaluated in a non-peer-reviewed study by Ohio State University, which found the product to be highly effective in deterring birds in dairy barn environments.
A peer-reviewed study is now being planned for 2025 to assess its full efficacy under controlled scientific conditions.
Avian Enterprises brings over five years of expertise to the field of bird control, supplying repellents for a wide range of settings, from airports and farms to schools and orchards.
The addition of Avian Migrate® to their product line marks a focused step into the fight against avian influenza in commercial poultry farming.
Farmers already using the product are seeing tangible results. “We have 1.2 million chickens and are concerned about avian bird flu. We lost a lot of chickens in 2022 and are trying to control it this year. There are a lot of wild geese and ducks in our area. Once we applied Avian Migrate with InvisiDye we noticed a dramatic change. The geese and ducks stayed away,” said Thomas Puglisi of Puglisi Egg Farms in Delaware.
