This acquisition aligns with LDC’s strategic expansion in Argentina, following the purchase of a warehouse in Gobernador Mansilla in 2024.
ARGENTINA – Leading commodity trader Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) has announced the acquisition of a new grains and oilseeds warehouse in Santa Elena, Entre Ríos province, Argentina.
The facility boasts a static storage capacity of 22,000 tons and an additional 55,000 tons through silo bags.
Strategically located beside the Paraná River, it features a barge port with an hourly shipping capacity of 450 tons, enhancing logistical efficiency to LDC’s port complexes in Timbúes and General Lagos, situated 260 km and 320 km south, respectively.
“The continued expansion of our inland origination capabilities in Argentina further enhances our ability to work closely with farmers, facilitating supply chain traceability to the farm level,” said Juan Tizado, LDC’s Regional Head of Grains & Oilseeds Origination for South & West Latin America.
This acquisition aligns with LDC’s strategic expansion in Argentina, following the purchase of a warehouse in Gobernador Mansilla in 2024.
The Santa Elena facility will serve as a hub for soybeans and high-oleic seeds, such as camelina, canola, and sunflower, which will be directed to LDC’s Timbúes port complex.
Notably, new equipment is being installed at Timbúes to process these soft seeds starting in 2026, complementing existing soy crushing and port operations.
Beyond storage and logistics, the Santa Elena site will host a commercial office offering local farmers a suite of services, including logistics and financial support, sustainability consultancy, and the sale of seeds, fertilisers, and crop protection products under LDC’s Macro Seed, Macro Fertil, and Macro Protect brands.
The facility is expected to employ an average of 10 people, increasing to approximately 15 during peak harvest seasons.
Adding to its strategic expansion, LDC recently inaugurated a new office in Hamburg’s historic HafenCity district, Germany.
Located in Pickhuben, an area with strong ties to Germany’s commodities and natural raw materials trade, the office highlights LDC’s commitment to strengthening regional connections and enhancing its position in the global oils, fats, and oleochemicals industry.
According to LDC, the new office aims to foster closer collaboration with regional supply chain partners and capitalise on the strategic location’s proximity to Nordic and Baltic markets.
The Hamburg team said they were eager to collaborate with partners to deliver high-quality, plant-based solutions, including edible oils, natural emulsifiers, lecithin, and non-GMO rapeseed-derived glycerin.
