Omega-3 oils are widely recognized for their role in supporting cardiovascular health, improving brain function, and reducing inflammation—benefits that are increasingly valued in the pet food sector.
SPAIN – Innovaoleo, the omega-3 division of Spanish biotech firm Natac, has unveiled Omega-3 Star, a premium fish oil developed for use in food, nutraceutical, and pet nutrition applications, with a focus on purity, stability, and versatility.
The launch follows months of rigorous development and supplier selection to ensure the oil meets strict quality standards.
Produced at Natac’s As Somozas facility in A Coruña—the largest omega-3 manufacturing plant in Spain—Omega-3 Star is rich in EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), two essential omega-3 fatty acids known for their wide-ranging health benefits.
“The purpose was not only to offer a high-quality fish oil, but also to ensure the highest purity and stability,” said Miguel Barba, Natac’s Omega-3 Global Division Manager. “With Omega-3 Star, we have created an oil that stands out in the market for its neutrality in terms of taste, smell, and colour, allowing our customers to enjoy a premium product.”
The new product targets the growing global demand for omega-3 oils in human and animal nutrition. Omega-3 18 EPA/12 DHA oils are widely recognized for their role in supporting cardiovascular health, improving brain function, and reducing inflammation—benefits that are increasingly valued in the pet food sector as well.
Natac certifies omega-3 plant with the GMP+ and Halal seals
To further reinforce its commitment to quality and international market expansion, Natac has also secured GMP+ and Halal certifications for the As Somozas facility, which began operations in September 2024.
The GMP+ certification recognises that the As Somozas factory complies with strict international standards of quality and safety in the manufacture of products.
This seal is especially relevant for the feed and food industry, ensuring that the production and factory management processes are adequate to deliver products that comply with local regulations and surpass international expectations.
The Halal seal, meanwhile, certifies that Omega-3 Star complies with Islamic dietary laws, opening the door to Muslim consumer markets worldwide.
On the other hand, the Halal certification guarantees that the omega-3 manufactured at the A Coruña factory complies with the requirements established by Islamic law, allowing Natac to expand its presence in Muslim consumer markets nationally and internationally.
This seal ensures the products meet this niche market’s purity and traceability requirements.
“These first two certificates allow us to continue growing and offering products that meet the highest quality and safety requirements,” said Antonio Delgado, CEO of Natac.
“With them, we are responding to our customers’ needs and positioning ourselves as a reference in the sector by being at the forefront of responsible production.”
The company emphasised that sustainability and traceability are key to its production process, aligning with increasing consumer and regulatory demands for transparency and ethical sourcing in the omega-3 space.
