The study highlights the growing need for local fish feed production, given the dramatic increase in imported fish feed by 375% from 2020 to 2023.
OMAN – The Zubair Enterprise Development Centre (Zubair EDC) has successfully completed an economic feasibility study for the Sustainable Tuhlub Project, a groundbreaking initiative to transform Oman’s fish feed production.
The project aims to develop sustainable and cost-effective fish feed solutions by utilising Azolla, a nutrient-rich aquatic plant, reinforcing food security and advancing Oman’s aquaculture sector in alignment with Oman Vision 2040.
The initiative results from a strategic partnership between Sustainable Tuhlub, a member of Zubair EDC, and Al Rowad Centre for Consulting and Development, a leading national firm specialising in agricultural and animal consultancy.
The study highlights the growing need for local fish feed production, given the dramatic increase in imported fish feed, which surged by 375% from 3,266 tonnes in 2020 to 15,553 tonnes in 2023.
The Sustainable Tuhlub Project represents a significant advancement in fish feed innovation, offering an environmentally friendly and high-quality nutrition source for farmed fish.
By harnessing Azolla, the project seeks to enhance fish health, improve the quality of aquaculture, and reduce dependency on imported feed.
Additionally, it aligns with sustainability goals by utilising natural, renewable resources to support a more resilient aquaculture industry.
