Loop Pet Food scales up sustainable pet nutrition in Kenya with new processing line

The new line will allow Loop Pet Food to scale up to an impressive 60 tons per month.

KENYA – Loop Pet Food has taken a significant leap forward in its mission to provide high-quality, sustainable pet nutrition by officially launching a new processing line at its Magana Lighting Industrial Center facility on March 22, 2025.

Previously limited to producing 2-3 tons of dog food per month, the new line will enable Loop Pet Food to scale up to an impressive 60 tons per month.

This expansion is set to meet the increasing demand for premium pet food in Kenya and across Africa. The company already supplies products to Rwanda and plans further expansion into the broader East African market.

Revolutionising pet nutrition with insect protein

Founded by Laura Stanford and Amit Grabovski, Loop Pet Food is at the forefront of a global movement toward alternative proteins.

The company’s nutrient-dense kibble is powered by black soldier fly larvae meal—a sustainable, protein-rich ingredient derived from insects that feed on organic waste.

This innovative approach delivers high-quality nutrition for pets and contributes to environmental sustainability by reducing reliance on conventional meat-based proteins.

Loop Pet Food’s formulation goes beyond just protein. It incorporates cassava flour, carrots, spinach, and other whole vegetables to ensure a well-balanced diet free from fillers and artificial preservatives.

The company prides itself on offering grain-free and gluten-free options, making it an ideal choice for dogs with food sensitivities.

By eliminating grains such as maize, Loop Pet Food also mitigates the risk of mycotoxin contamination, a prevalent food safety concern in pet and human nutrition.

Supporting local farmers and sustainable practices

Beyond pet health, Loop Pet Food is deeply committed to sustainability and community impact.

The company sources vegetables from local farmers and vendors, preventing food waste while ensuring pets receive essential nutrients.

Laura Stanford, co-founder of Loop Pet Food, recently emphasised the importance of a diverse dog diet in an article for the second issue of Feed Business Middle East and Africa.

When you think about a dog’s diet, it can and should be more colorful, with a mix of protein, carbohydrates, fruits, and vegetables—much like your diet as an omnivore,” she noted.

Additionally, Loop Pet Food sources ingredients from like-minded businesses such as 254 Brewing and Insectipro to further sustainable practices in pet food production.

A growing product range for every dog

Loop Pet Food caters to dogs at all life stages, from puppies to seniors, ensuring tailored nutrition for longevity and overall well-being.

In addition to its insect-powered kibble, the company offers nutrient-rich toppers to complement home-cooked meals and antioxidant-packed pet treats and snacks designed to enhance canine health.

With its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and premium pet nutrition, Loop Pet Food is setting a new standard in the industry.

As demand for environmentally responsible pet food continues to grow, the company’s expansion positions it as a key player in the future of pet nutrition across Africa.
