This facility will specialise in processing category 3 animal by-products from poultry slaughter operations into high-value ingredients.
POLAND – Polish meat and poultry giant Animex has invested PLN 137 million (US$35.7 million) in a new poultry rendering plant, Animex K5, intended to strengthen Poland’s feed and pet food industries.
Officially inaugurated on March 3, 2025, this state-of-the-art facility will specialise in processing category three animal by-products (ABPs) from poultry slaughter operations into high-value ingredients such as processed animal protein, hydrolysed feather meal and poultry fat.
These products will be used primarily in the feed and pet food sectors, with additional applications in biofuel production.
The Animex K5 facility marks the company’s fifth investment in the Kutno-Łęczyca region, underscoring the area’s strategic importance to the company’s operations.
The facility, located in Koryta, Daszyna commune, features a production hall spanning 5,186 square meters, situated on a 40,000-square-meter site.
“Animex K5 is an investment that not only enhances our company’s potential but also emphasises the strategic significance of central Poland—the heart of both our country and Animex,” stated Artur Borys, Managing Director for By-products Development at Animex Foods.
“This is where our key processing operations are concentrated, allowing us to optimise raw material use and pursue sustainable growth.”
Animex has designed the K5 plant to meet the highest safety and environmental protection standards. A cutting-edge air purification system, valued at PLN 10.25 (US$2.7) million, has been implemented to reduce the plant’s environmental impact.
The company remains committed to eco-friendly innovations and workplace safety. “Safe employees mean a safe business,” emphasised Animex in its strategy statement, highlighting its dedication to worker welfare and operational excellence.
Future growth and industry impact
Looking ahead, Animex has ambitious plans for the K5 facility. By 2027, the company aims to establish itself as Poland’s leading processor of animal by-products.
Leveraging advanced technology and strict quality controls, Animex expects the plant to play a crucial role in strengthening Poland’s feed and pet food industries while enhancing the competitiveness of the country’s meat sector.
The opening of Animex K5 comes at a critical time for Poland’s poultry industry, which has faced challenges from Newcastle disease outbreaks, which have been a significant setback to broiler chicken processors like Animex.
Since September 2024, Poland has recorded 29 affected poultry flocks, resulting in the loss of nearly 3.9 million birds. Authorities have implemented strict biosecurity measures to contain the disease, including stamping out, movement controls, and disinfection protocols.
