IFF extends Enviva® PRO probiotic range to improve swine welfare

USA – International Flavors & Fragrances Inc. (IFF), a leading provider of ingredients and nutrition solutions, has extended its three-strain Bacillus probiotic Enviva® PRO to pig diets, offering producers an effective solution to combat post-weaning health challenges. 

The probiotic has already demonstrated success in poultry production, and new studies confirm its ability to support gut health and improve performance in weaned piglets.

“The weaning and post-weaning period can be challenging to navigate for swine producers, so implementing a nutritional management strategy is crucial for improving welfare and avoiding growth setbacks,” said Dr. Ester Vinyeta, Swine Innovation Lead at IFF. 

“With Enviva® PRO, swine producers can have peace of mind that their litters maintain optimal gut health, helping them meet growing production demands.”

Studies conducted by IFF revealed that Enviva® PRO improved average daily weight gain by 2.5% and reduced diarrhea frequency by 6.3% compared to control groups. 

The probiotic supports a favorable nutribiotic state, ensuring efficient nutrient digestion and overall piglet health. 

The product is currently available to swine producers in Japan and the United States, with plans for further expansion following regulatory approvals.

IFF introduces Enviva® DUO for poultry

Building on its commitment to advancing animal health, IFF also introduced Enviva® DUO, a groundbreaking direct-fed microbial (DFM) solution for poultry production, earlier this year. 

This innovative blend of two non-spore-forming bacterial strains enhances gut microbiome stability, particularly in birds facing microbial challenges.

“Enviva® DUO gives our customers a significant edge against evolving microbial challenges and offers the flexibility to target specific houses or farms through its waterline application,” said Kirsty Gibbs, Poultry Innovation Platform Lead for Danisco Animal Nutrition & Health, IFF.

Scientific research underscores the efficacy of Enviva® DUO, showing its ability to restore the poultry microbiome, improve gut conditions, and promote the growth of beneficial bacteria. 

Its stable formulation ensures uniform dispersion in water distribution systems, preventing sedimentation and guaranteeing consistent delivery to flocks.

According to IFF, Enviva® DUO is now available to poultry integrators and large farm complexes in the U.S. The ingredients company plans to extend availability to additional regions as regulatory approvals are obtained.
