GERMANY – Symrise AG, a global supplier of functional ingredients, has announced a strategic partnership with Hofseth BioCare (HBC), a Norwegian manufacturer of salmon-based ingredients focused on human health and pet nutrition.
This partnership strengthens Symrise’s position in the health category by incorporating clinically proven marine ingredients while enhancing HBC’s market reach and scale.
HBC is a leader in sustainable marine proteins, collagens, and oils derived from Norwegian Atlantic salmon.
The company upcycles salmon industry byproducts, transforming them into high-value health-enhancing ingredients such as ProGo®, a bioactive peptide and collagen blend; OmeGo®, a whole salmon oil containing all essential fatty acid fractions; and CalGo®/NT-II®, a salmon bone powder rich in calcium hydroxyapatite and undenatured collagen for bone and joint health.
By focusing on scientific validation, HBC has forged strong academic partnerships to identify and substantiate the health benefits of its products.
The collaboration between Symrise and HBC aligns with Symrise’s “One Care” initiative and its recent creation of the Global Marine Platform, a move to explore marine-derived health solutions further.
The partnership also supports HBC’s growth ambitions, including plans to refurbish its Berkak facility into a state-of-the-art enzymatic hydrolysis plant, tripling its current production capacity.
Additionally, Symrise’s well-established global market presence will facilitate the expansion of HBC’s innovative product offerings worldwide.
Dr. Jean-Yves Parisot, CEO of Symrise AG, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating: “This collaboration underscores HBC’s unique position in the industry and its dedication to science-backed health solutions. Their clinical investments in metabolic, immune, gut, and mobility health provide a strong foundation for future growth. The partnership is a perfect fit for our strategy to accelerate in health and leverage the vast potential of marine ingredients.”
HBC CEO Jon Olav Odegard echoed this sentiment: “Symrise has been an invaluable partner, and we are thrilled to deepen our collaboration. With their extensive market access and expertise, we can scale our operations and strengthen our position as the global leader in science-led marine nutrition for human and pet health.”
Beyond the partnership, Symrise has reported strong financial results for 2024, demonstrating resilience despite economic challenges. The company generated sales of €4.999 (US$5.23) billion, marking a 5.7% increase in the reporting currency.
Organic sales growth reached 8.7%, while EBITDA rose to €1.033 (US$1.08) billion, reflecting a margin improvement to 20.7% from the previous year’s 19.1%.
These results reaffirm Symrise’s commitment to sustained growth and profitability through 2028.
