EUROPE – Brenntag, the 150-year-old global distributor of chemicals and ingredients, has announced an exclusive distribution agreement with HiProMine SA to supply insect-derived products to the animal nutrition and pet food industries across Europe.
This collaboration expands Brenntag’s sustainable ingredients portfolio by introducing HiProMine’s high-protein, amino acid-rich, and antimicrobial peptide feed components.
HiProMine, a GMP+ certified company, specialises in solutions derived from Black Soldier Fly larvae. These insect-based products serve as functional protein and fat feed components, delivering significant animal nutritional benefits.
According to Wouter Vullings, Director of Animal Nutrition for Brenntag EMEA, these new additions enhance Brenntag’s existing sustainable ingredient offerings, reinforcing its leadership position in the European animal nutrition and pet food sectors.
Prof. Damian Józefiak, co-founder of HiProMine, emphasised that the partnership marks a critical step in HiProMine’s expansion across Europe. Leveraging Brenntag’s well-established distribution network, HiProMine aims to accelerate sales and introduce sustainable animal nutrition solutions to new markets.
Brenntag expands its animal nutrition portfolio
Brenntag Animal Nutrition has been actively strengthening its market position, securing two major distribution agreements in late 2024.
These partnerships—with Pathway Intermediates and BTSA—underscore the company’s commitment to offering innovative and sustainable solutions tailored to the evolving needs of its customers.
Most recently, Brenntag announced an exclusive partnership with Pathway Intermediates to distribute its Lipidol range—the world’s first absorption accelerator for animal nutrition—in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), Benelux, and the Nordic regions.
Lipidol, a pioneering product containing highly concentrated lysophospholipids, enhances nutrient absorption, improves livestock performance, and reduces nutrient and energy losses in feed.
“This expansion aligns perfectly with our strategic goal to be a leading solutions provider in the animal nutrition and pet food industries,” said Vullings. Edward Youngman, CEO of Pathway Intermediates, described the agreement as a “fruitful continuation” of their collaboration, allowing both companies to serve customers with cutting-edge solutions better.
The partnership extends a long-standing collaboration between the two companies, which began in 2014 in CEE, to new European markets.
In another strategic move, Brenntag has secured an exclusive distribution agreement with BTSA, a leading European manufacturer of natural antioxidants.
This partnership grants Brenntag the rights to distribute BTSA’s Oxabiol line of natural antioxidants across Europe, including both conventional and organic variants.
BTSA’s antioxidants, formulated with tocopherol blends, rosemary, and green tea extracts, are crucial for extending feed shelf life, preserving nutrients, and preventing spoilage due to oxidation.
Since 2019, Brenntag and BTSA have collaborated to bring innovative antioxidant solutions to the market.
Vullings highlighted the synergy between the two companies, emphasising that BTSA’s antioxidants complement Brenntag’s existing product portfolio, further strengthening its position in the EMEA region.
“This partnership reinforces our ability to meet diverse customer needs in the animal feed and pet food sectors,” he said. Javier Letamendia, CEO of BTSA, praised the agreement for achieving near-complete market coverage, ensuring more customers benefit from their high-quality solutions.
