I’Anson Brothers unveils US$20M feed mill in historic expansion

UK – I’Anson Brothers Ltd, a family-owned leader in the UK’s animal feed industry, recently announced the completion of its landmark £20 (US$20.6) million Waterloo House feed mill in North Yorkshire.

Situated in the Dalton Industrial Park, the state-of-the-art facility marks the company’s largest investment in its 124-year history.

Waterloo House will focus on producing bulk feed, ensuring consistent supply for customers while addressing the growing demands of the agricultural sector.

This new facility complements I’Anson’s Masham mill, which will continue producing compound feeds, micronised products, and its award-winning equine feeds that reach markets in over 46 countries.

Managing Director Sarah Richardson, representing the fourth generation of the family to lead the company, highlighted the project’s significance.

Commissioning and formal hand-over of the new mill is a highly significant occasion in the history of our business and for the UK feed industry as a whole,” she said. “This milestone was made possible by the commitment of our team and the skilled project partners who brought this initiative to life.”

Designed with sustainability in mind, the 35-meter-high mill, towering nearly twice as tall as the Angel of the North, incorporates energy-efficient technologies to minimise environmental impact.

Renowned Dutch milling specialist Ottevanger spearheaded the mill’s design, with Harrogate-based contractor HACS handling groundwork and GAME Engineering overseeing equipment installation.

Richardson emphasised the company’s commitment to its Yorkshire roots and rural community.

We are very proud to be a Yorkshire business and an integral part of the rural economy. This significant investment allows us to provide current and future customers with a sustainable, long-term source of supply,” she noted.

The facility is expected to create new employment opportunities, expand markets for local farmers’ crops, and strengthen I’Anson’s position as a key player in the UK’s animal feed industry.

With over 100 employees and annual sales exceeding £70 (US$72.1) million, I’Anson Brothers remains dedicated to producing high-quality feeds that meet the evolving needs of farmers and the livestock sector.

Waterloo House is now operational, marking the beginning of a phased production ramp-up, ensuring that I’Anson continues to serve the agricultural community with excellence and innovation.
