GHANA – The Ghana International Trade and Finance Conference (GITFIC) has unveiled a groundbreaking poultry production initiative in a bold move to address Ghana’s reliance on imported poultry.
With an investment exceeding GHC 827,000 (US$56,074), this ambitious project combines egg and chicken meat production with advanced housing facilities, marking a transformative step in Ghana’s agricultural sector.
Situated on a sprawling five-acre property in the Eastern Region, the farm currently boasts a daily production capacity of 5,000 eggs, a figure set to grow significantly as operations scale up to accommodate 30,000 birds in the coming months.
Beyond meeting domestic poultry demand, GITFIC is set to process mature chickens into canned chicken sauce for both local consumption and export.
This venture strategically positions Ghana to tap into the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), expanding its reach into international markets.
Selasi Koffi Ackom, CEO of GITFIC, described the project as a cornerstone of the organisation’s broader economic vision.
“This initiative is not only addressing Ghana’s food security but also creating new revenue streams and showcasing the country’s potential in value-added agriculture,” he noted.
Managed by an expert with over 30 years of experience from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the project guarantees adherence to global poultry management standards.
According to Mr. Ackom, the next milestone is constructing a specialised processing facility, set to begin in March 2025.
This factory will produce market-ready poultry products to elevate the project’s economic impact. The anticipated revenue will not only sustain GITFIC’s operations but also support its transition into a globally recognised organisation.
GITFIC’s poultry investment aligns with its broader mission to bolster Ghana’s economic resilience.
In recent months, the organization has strengthened international trade ties, including high-level discussions with Moroccan officials on AfCFTA implementation and its Global Debt Initiative.
These efforts highlight GITFIC’s dual focus on fostering local production and enhancing global partnerships.
According to Mr. Ackom, This visionary approach underscores the organisation’s dedication to reducing import dependence while positioning Ghana as a regional leader in trade and innovation.
