USA – ADM, one of the world’s largest nutrition companies, is solidifying its leadership in agricultural innovation with an ambitious commitment to support 5 million acres of regenerative agriculture by 2025.
This goal is achieved through strategic partnerships across the value chain to enhance soil health, sequester carbon, improve water quality, and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
In a major push toward sustainability, ADM has partnered with Mars Petcare US, Inc. and Royal Canin to promote regenerative farming in the U.S. pet food industry.
The initiative encourages corn farmers in Iowa, Minnesota, and Nebraska to adopt cover cropping, no-till farming, optimised fertiliser use, and responsible pesticide application.
The project targets over 100,000 acres of farmland by 2024. ADM’s President of North American Oilseeds Crush and Grain, John Grossmann, emphasised the critical role of collaboration in achieving meaningful results.
“Bringing together farmers, technical experts, and committed partners like Mars and Royal Canin allows us to drive measurable sustainability outcomes,” he noted.
Mars Petcare has prioritised sustainable sourcing in its mission to decarbonize its supply chain.
With agricultural ingredients accounting for a significant portion of its environmental footprint, the company’s regenerative agriculture initiatives are vital to achieving its climate goals while improving farmer livelihoods and ensuring long-term resilience.
Similarly, Royal Canin, a leader in premium pet nutrition, is working with ADM to implement eco-friendly practices that align with its commitment to sustainable ingredient sourcing.
These efforts support farmers and aim to reduce carbon emissions and foster biodiversity, benefiting pets, people, and the planet.
Beyond pet food, ADM has pioneered regenerative agriculture programs in collaboration with brands like PepsiCo and Nestlé.
The company empowers farmers worldwide to adopt sustainable practices suited to their environments by offering financial incentives, technological solutions, and expert support.
ADM achieved 2.8 million regenerative acres in 2023 and aims to expand this to 3.5 million acres by the end of 2024.
These initiatives have earned industry recognition, including finalist spots in prestigious awards such as the Reuters Responsible Business Awards and Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas Awards.
Mars, Inc. continues to make strides in sustainability, achieving a cumulative 16% reduction in GHG emissions since 2015.
With 60% of its emissions linked to agricultural ingredients, the company is scaling climate-smart initiatives across its portfolio, from pet food to confectionery.
