GLOBAL – Adisseo, BIOLAN, and Cargill have joined the Sustainable Shrimp Partnership (SSP) as associate members in a major collaboration for sustainable aquaculture.
This partnership strengthens SSP’s mission to transform shrimp farming with eco-friendly, responsible practices.
Together, these industry leaders aim to reshape global shrimp aquaculture by prioritising transparency, sustainability, and accountability.
Pamela Nath, director of the SSP, highlighted the critical role of cooperation across the shrimp supply chain in driving industry-wide transformation.
“Real change in the aquaculture industry can only happen when every actor in the value chain comes together,” Nath explained.
“From producers to suppliers, embracing sustainability at every stage is essential to ensure long-term impact. The involvement of leading companies like Adisseo, BIOLAN, and Cargill brings us closer to achieving that vision.“
The partnership will draw on Adisseo, BIOLAN, and Cargill’s extensive resources, knowledge, and innovative approaches to promote sustainable shrimp production and drive transparency throughout the sector.
SSP has created a platform that connects producers, retailers, academics, and NGOs, facilitating collaboration to enhance aquaculture standards worldwide.
With an increased focus on Latin America, Lucas Assis, Adisseo’s Innovation Project Manager, sees this partnership as a pivotal step for Adisseo in advancing sustainable shrimp farming.
“By joining SSP, Adisseo strengthens its leadership in sustainable shrimp production, driving collaborative innovation and sharing best practices with industry peers,” Assis noted.
Dave Robb, Sustainability Lead at Cargill’s Aqua Nutrition Group, underscored Cargill’s dedication to reshaping the shrimp industry.
“Partnerships like this strengthen our ability to foster transparency, improve environmental practices, and set new standards for responsible production,” Robb said.
With the addition of Adisseo, BIOLAN, and Cargill, SSP expands its network to include a powerful roster of industry leaders like BASF, BioMar, dsm-firmenich, Houdek-Prairie AquaTech, Inve Aquaculture, Nicovita, MSD Animal Health, and Skretting.
This robust alliance propels SSP’s vision of a transparent, sustainable shrimp industry forward, influencing aquaculture practices globally.
According to a report by Fortune Business Insights, the global shrimp market size was US$40.35 billion in 2023 and is projected to grow from US$42.90 billion in 2024 to USD 74.24 billion by 2032 at a CAGR of 7.09% during the 2024-2032 period.
This trend reflects a rising demand for shrimp due to its versatility as seafood becomes exceedingly popular globally, making this partnership rather strategic.
