PHILIPPINES – DSM-Firmenich has strengthened its commitment to sustainable agriculture by partnering with Bounty Fresh Group (BFG) Philippines to implement the Sustell platform, a lifecycle assessment (LCA) tool designed to improve the environmental footprint of animal proteins.
The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on September 11, marking a milestone in advancing eco-friendly practices in the Philippines’ poultry sector.
BFG, a leading poultry producer and retailer, will now utilise Sustell across its entire supply chain, from breeder farms to feed mills and processing plants, to monitor and reduce the environmental impact of its operations.
Dr. David Nickell, Vice President of Sustainability and Business Solutions at DSM-Firmenich Animal Nutrition & Health, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership.
“We are proud to partner with Bounty Fresh Group Philippines on implementing our Sustell platform to enhance the sustainability of their poultry operations,” Nickell stated.
“By deploying accurate, scalable, and credible environmental impact assessments, we can collaboratively build a more sustainable food system that benefits producers and consumers alike.”
The Sustell platform will help BFG address environmental concerns through detailed data analysis, providing insights to optimise resource use and reduce emissions.
This initiative aligns with BFG’s commitment to expanding sustainable product offerings and supporting local communities, reinforcing DSM-Firmenich’s mission to drive sustainable progress in the Philippines’ farming sector.
DSM-Firmenich expands algae-based DHA portfolio
In another advancement for health and sustainability, DSM-Firmenich recently introduced life’sDHA® B54-0100, a highly concentrated DHA algal oil, as part of its life’s® portfolio.
Launched on October 28, life’sDHA® B54-0100 offers high potency and sensory appeal, positioning itself as a key player in the market for plant-based omega-3 supplements.
This latest addition aims to address the global omega-3 deficiency while minimising environmental impact, sourcing DHA from algae to avoid reliance on fish oil and enhance supply chain stability.
Brent MacDonald, Business Development Director at DSM-Firmenich, highlighted the significance of algae-sourced DHA for global health and sustainability.
“Fish oil supply is not limitless. But algae are. That’s why we introduced life’s® to the market,” he said.
With a high DHA concentration that allows for smaller, more potent capsules, life’sDHA® B54-0100 provides an appealing, environmentally friendly alternative free from fishy taste and odor, suitable for innovative supplement forms like gummies and chews.
