TANZANIA – The Tanzania Poultry Show 2024, held from October 18-19 at Mlimani City in Dar es Salaam, gathered key players from agriculture, livestock, and commerce to highlight the growing importance of Tanzania’s poultry industry.
Attracting local and international exhibitors alike, the show showcased the latest advancements, products, and strategies designed to propel the poultry sector forward.
This year’s event marked a substantial increase in participation, with exhibitors from eight countries underscoring Tanzania’s rising profile in the global poultry market.
Geoffrey Kirenga, CEO of SAGCOT Centre, spoke to attendees about the importance of collaboration across the sector, stressing that partnerships between private enterprises, government bodies, and smallholder farmers are essential for strengthening agricultural productivity.
During a visit to the AfriFarm Pavilion, Kirenga praised the significant strides made by the present exhibitors in providing critical products and services for poultry farming.
“We believe this show offers a great opportunity for Tanzanian poultry farmers to expand their businesses and improve efficiency,” Kirenga remarked, voicing optimism that the event would open doors to fruitful partnerships and growth opportunities for local farmers and businesses.
The event’s international dimension was emphasised by the attendance of high-profile figures, including Dr. Hailemariam Dessalegn, former Ethiopian Prime Minister and Chairman of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA).
Dr. Dessalegn visited several booths, underscoring the critical role of regional and cross-border cooperation in advancing agricultural productivity across Africa.
Tanzania’s Deputy Minister of Livestock and Fisheries, Alexander Mnyeti, and the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Prof. Rikizi Shemdoe, also toured the exhibition floor, demonstrating the Tanzanian government’s commitment to fostering growth in the poultry sector.
Hundreds of stakeholders and attendees engaged with industry leaders throughout the show, exploring new technologies and solutions to improve poultry productivity and efficiency. Exhibitors presented diverse innovations, from advanced feed formulations to disease management solutions.
Notably, several booths were dedicated to biosecurity products, underscoring the industry’s heightened focus on maintaining high standards to prevent disease outbreaks—a crucial element as the sector grows.
The Tanzania Poultry Show has become a critical annual event for the industry, drawing a larger and more diverse audience each year.
This year’s edition provided local poultry farmers and businesses with a unique platform to network, learn, and discuss strategies for growth in the face of rising demand.
