BRAZIL – DSM-Firmenich has strengthened its presence in Brazil’s agribusiness sector with the grand opening of a new animal nutrition factory in Sete Lagoas, Minas Gerais.
The state-of-the-art facility, inaugurated on October 17, 2024, will produce 100,000 tons of supplements annually, designed to enhance the health and productivity of beef and dairy cattle.
This significant investment is a strategic step aimed at bolstering the region’s thriving agricultural industry.
Minas Gerais, known for its vast agricultural output, ranks as Brazil’s third-largest state for gross production value, with revenues exceeding BRL137 billion (US$24.1 billion).
The state’s robust agricultural industry is driven by key sectors such as coffee, dairy, and livestock farming, with the latter expected to generate BRL46 billion in revenue in 2024 alone.
Recognizing the state’s critical role in Brazil’s agribusiness, DSM-Firmenich aims to leverage this new facility to better serve its customers while supporting sustainable livestock farming practices.
“Minas Gerais is vital to agribusiness,” said Mauricio Adade, president of DSM-Firmenich Latin America. “This plant brings us closer to our customers and strategic partners, allowing us to deliver innovative solutions more efficiently, supporting herd health and productivity, and benefiting the entire food chain.”
The Sete Lagoas plant, which spans 40,000 square metres with 12,000 square metres of built area, is strategically located near major transportation routes, including BR-381 and the Belo Horizonte Ring Road.
This location ensures efficient distribution to meet growing demand not only in Minas Gerais but also in neighbouring regions.
Expansion plans are already underway, with the plant expected to serve the Midwest and Northeast regions by the end of 2025.
DSM-Firmenich is a leader in the Brazilian animal nutrition market, particularly through its Tortuga brand, which offers performance-enhancing additives and digital solutions.
Among these innovations are FarmTell, a farm management software that provides real-time data for decision-making, and Lore, an AI-driven platform for diagnostics and monitoring of farm conditions.
Additionally, the company’s Sustell platform helps farmers measure and improve the environmental footprint of their operations, aligning with global sustainability goals.
“Precision livestock farming is the future,” said Luiz Magalhães, president of Animal Nutrition and Health at DSM-Firmenich Latin America. “With over a century of experience, we are at the forefront of this transformation, helping beef and dairy farms improve productivity, health, and sustainability.”
