BRAZIL – Australian climate technology company Rumin8 has achieved a significant milestone with the approval of its methane-reducing feed additive in Brazil.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food Supply has granted the company regulatory authorization to market its innovative feed ingredient, aimed at curbing methane emissions in livestock.

This approval follows Rumin8’s earlier success in New Zealand, where provisional authorization was granted in late July 2024. These regulatory milestones are crucial steps toward the company’s goal of commercializing its methane-reducing feed additives globally.

Rumin8 CEO David Messina expressed confidence in the company’s trajectory: “Rumin8 is very quickly building a bank of regulatory authorizations required to progress the commercialization of our methane-reducing feed additives for livestock.

Two regulatory authorities have now assessed the safety data of our products and both have allowed us to proceed through an important regulatory gateway. That provides Rumin8 with confidence that we are on the right pathway.

Rumin8’s feed additive is based on tribromomethane (TBM), an organic active compound that has shown to be one of the most effective agents in reducing methane emissions in livestock.

The company’s technology uses a pharmaceutical-grade manufacturing process to synthesize and stabilize TBM, making it highly scalable, consistent, and cost-effective.

Brazil represents a crucial market for Rumin8, not only because of its large cattle population, which totals nearly 235 million head—by far the largest in the world—but also due to the country’s potential to significantly reduce methane emissions.

For comparison, the U.S. has approximately 95 million cattle, while Australia has about 30 million.

Brazil is a key market for Rumin8 for two key reasons,” said Messina. “Its large beef cattle population means that we can generate significant sales when we commercialize, and we can make a significant impact on reducing methane emissions – which is a key driver for Rumin8 and our shareholders.

The company has already demonstrated promising results in recent cattle trials, showing methane reductions of up to 86% and weight gains of 8.4% to 12.5% compared to control groups.

These trials were conducted by independent researchers in Australia, the United States, and Brazil, with funding from Rumin8.

With this regulatory approval in Brazil, Rumin8 can now progress to conducting full-scale efficacy and safety studies, bringing the company closer to full commercialization in a key global market for cattle farming.
