UAE – Boehringer Ingelheim has launched a revolutionary monthly parasiticide solution for cats in the UAE, offering an all-encompassing defense against internal and external parasites.

This breakthrough product was introduced on September 30, 2024, at a special event attended by over 100 veterinarians from the UAE and beyond.

It marks a major step forward in feline healthcare, providing a convenient and comprehensive solution for cat owners and veterinarians.

The new formula combines three powerful active ingredients—esafoxolaner for fleas and ticks, eprinomectin for internal parasites, and praziquantel for worms—ensuring broad-spectrum protection.

This means that cats can now be shielded from a range of parasites, including fleas, ticks, mites, and various worms, with a single application.

The product is safe for use on cats as young as eight weeks old and pregnant and lactating cats, offering flexibility and peace of mind to veterinarians and owners.

During the launch, Dr. Remo Lobetti, President of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and a respected expert in small animal medicine, underscored the health risks parasites pose to cats.

He explained that while fleas are the most common parasite seen in cats, internal parasites often go unnoticed but can cause serious damage to multiple organs.

Feline parasites can lead to various health issues, from mild skin irritations to life-threatening diseases. The new solution by Boehringer Ingelheim is a groundbreaking advancement, tackling both visible and hidden threats. This comprehensive protection gives peace of mind to both veterinarians and cat owners, ensuring a higher quality of life for cats,” he said.

One significant advantage of this new solution is its ease of use. Ensuring regular treatment can be challenging in the UAE, where the hot climate exposes cats to parasites all year round.

Gurkan Ulusoy, Head of Animal Health, Near East and UAE, at Boehringer Ingelheim, highlighted that the convenience of a topical application makes the solution more user-friendly.

Parasites are not limited to outdoor cats; they can be carried indoors on shoes, plants, and other animals. This solution is designed with both convenience and comprehensive protection in mind, ensuring that even time-pressed owners can keep their cats safe from parasitic infections,” he explained.

Ulusoy also emphasized that the product’s simple monthly application could improve pet owners’ compliance rates, helping maintain consistent protection for domesticated cats. He noted that this is especially important in regions like the UAE, where parasite exposure is constant.

Boehringer Ingelheim’s latest product reflects the company’s long-standing commitment to advancing animal health. The parasiticide solution, available through veterinarian prescription, adds to the company’s extensive animal health portfolio, which includes vaccines, therapeutics, and parasiticides widely trusted by veterinarians and pet owners globally.

In addition to this groundbreaking product launch, Boehringer Ingelheim has expanded its footprint in the animal health industry by acquiring Saiba Animal Health, a Swiss company known for developing novel therapeutic solutions for chronic pet diseases.

This acquisition further strengthens Boehringer Ingelheim’s mission to prevent, detect, and treat animal diseases, ensuring that no pet suffers from preventable illnesses.
