FRANCE – France-based Nor-Feed, a leading company specialising in natural feed additives, has been awarded the globally recognised B-Corp certification following a rigorous two-year evaluation.
This achievement, officially announced on September 17, 2024, solidifies Nor-Feed’s reputation for prioritising environmental responsibility, social impact, and transparency in the animal nutrition industry.
The B-Corp label, awarded by the non-profit organisation B-Lab, is a prestigious certification recognising companies that meet high social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency standards.
By obtaining this label, Nor-Feed joins a global community of businesses that are committed to creating positive change through ethical business practices.
Founded in 2003 and fully acquired by Addiseo in 2023, Nor-Feed is dedicated to minimising the use of natural resources. Over 80% of its plant extracts are sourced from food industry by-products.
This sustainable approach not only reduces waste but also helps to lower the dependency on synthetic substances like antibiotics and insecticides in animal feed, reducing the overall environmental impact of animal production.
The company’s natural solutions align with the growing demand for sustainable agricultural practices and responsible farming.
Nor-Feed’s efforts to minimize its environmental footprint are further demonstrated through initiatives such as publishing life cycle analyses of its products in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
These analyses offer a transparent view of the environmental impact of the company’s offerings, reinforcing its dedication to responsible agriculture.
“This recognition underlines our ongoing commitment to reconciling economic performance with a positive impact on both society and the environment,” representatives from the company commented.
The label not only reflects Nor-Feed’s innovative approach to natural feed solutions but also underscores its role as a leader in promoting sustainable and transparent practices in the animal nutrition sector.
Emission reduction through feed additives
In December 2023, Nor-Feed unveiled its citrus extract feed additive’s Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), marking a significant stride towards transparency and sustainability, aligning with its commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
The LCA, published in the esteemed scientific journal Animals, was conducted in collaboration with EVEA, a specialised and independent consultancy firm. The assessment comprehensively explores the environmental impact of manufacturing, distributing, and utilizing Nor-Feed’s citrus extract feed additive in broiler chicken and swine productions.
Nor-Feed’s LCA underlines the benefits of incorporating the citrus extract feed additive into swine and broiler chicken diets. The environmental performance assessment showcases its potential to mitigate the environmental impacts associated with meat production.
Notably, the study reveals that using 25kg of citrus extract feed additive in broiler production results in a net reduction of 6 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
This research, subject to rigorous scientific peer review, positions Nor-Feed’s plant-based feed additives as a dual-force solution: enhancing animal zootechnical performances while simultaneously minimizing the environmental footprint of meat production chains.
The same methodology has been applied to Nor-Feed’s main products, with detailed Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) data now accessible on the company website.
