USA – Global agribusiness Scoular is set to begin operations at its newly completed oilseed crush facility in Goodland, Kansas, marking a significant investment in both renewable fuels and animal feed.
The state-of-the-art facility, which celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on September 19, 2024, is designed to process 11 million bushels of canola and soybeans annually.
This dual-capacity plant will help meet the increasing demand for vegetable oils in renewable fuels and produce protein meal for livestock feed.
Located on nearly 150 acres, the facility boasts a daily crushing capacity of 1,000 metric tons. Scoular’s Goodland plant is equipped to serve various sectors, including dairy, beef, poultry, and pork producers, by supplying them with high-quality feed products.
In addition, it will contribute to the burgeoning renewable energy market, producing essential vegetable oils used in renewable fuels.
Sandra Hulm, Scoular’s Senior Vice President of Renewables & Oilseeds, expressed the company’s long-term vision:
“We plan to be in Goodland for decades to come. Scoular has made a significant investment in a business we believe in. This facility exemplifies our commitment to delivering top-tier service and quality, helping both our customers and producers thrive.”
The new plant is part of Scoular’s broader strategy to expand its presence in Kansas, where it already operates more than 20 facilities.
With the addition of this facility, Scoular is creating over 30 new jobs in the region and bolstering its influence in both local agriculture and renewable energy.
The company’s Canola MVP producer program has already increased winter canola production by 30,000 acres in the past year, highlighting the rapid growth in the sector.
Kansas Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of Commerce David Toland praised Scoular’s efforts, noting the state’s leadership in renewable energy:
“Kansas is at the forefront of turning cash crops into renewable energy and sustainable aviation fuels. Scoular is the kind of innovative company we’re counting on to continue growing our high-tech agriculture ecosystem.”
Other speakers at the ceremony included Scoular Chairman David Faith, CEO Paul Maass, Kansas Secretary of Agriculture Mike Beam, and Kansas State Senator Rick Billinger.
The facility is poised to make a lasting impact on local agriculture and renewable energy production, with Kansas emerging as a national leader in sustainable agricultural practices and renewable fuel production.
