Trouw Nutrition unveils North America’s largest feed mill in Canada

CANADA – Trouw Nutrition North America recently celebrated the grand opening of its largest feed mill in North America, located in Chilliwack, British Columbia. 

This new, state-of-the-art facility marks a significant milestone for the company and the wider industry. It boasts advanced features that enhance efficiency and sustainability. 

With the new mill, Trouw Nutrition sets the stage for the future of animal nutrition by incorporating cutting-edge technology to meet evolving industry needs.

Gastón López Minder, General Manager of Trouw Nutrition’s West Region of Canada, expressed the company’s vision for the future during the opening ceremony. 

Feeding the future is our purpose, and what we are doing here in Chilliwack is boosting the future of an industry in which we believe. We are investing in assets and people who can bring innovation and knowledge to elevate the livestock industry and our local economy.”

The event, held on September 11th, was attended by 400 guests, including local officials, producer customers, and industry leaders. 

Walker Eliason, Manufacturing and Supply Chain Director North America, emphasised the facility’s significance in advancing sustainability goals with the launched facility. 

This facility enhances our production capabilities and demonstrates our commitment to innovation and sustainability. The new mill is a game-changing facility equipped with the latest technology to optimise production and reduce environmental impact.

The mill’s construction embodies impressive achievements, including a 50% increase in production capacity and a 20% reduction in CO2 boiler energy consumption. 

Additionally, the facility was built with safety as a top priority, recording 372,715 safe work hours during construction. 

Other notable figures include 2820 cubic meters of concrete and over 450 tons of structural steel. The mill stands at an impressive height of 120 feet and will expand raw material storage capacity by more than 30%.

As part of the grand opening, guests toured the facility, gaining firsthand insight into the scale of Trouw Nutrition’s operations and its dedication to reducing environmental impact while delivering high-quality animal nutrition.

In addition to the mill opening, Trouw Nutrition and Selko Feed Additives hosted the inaugural DairyNutriVision event in Rotterdam from September 10th to 12th. 

This global event brought together 135 participants from 23 countries, including scientists, industry leaders, and dairy experts, to explore the future of sustainable dairy farming. 

The event featured 18 expert speakers and addressed topics such as the role of trace minerals in maintaining long-term productivity, the importance of early-life nutrition, and balancing nutrition and sustainability. 

DairyNutriVision aimed to foster knowledge exchange and strengthen the global dairy network, contributing to the future of sustainable dairy production.
