Brenntag opens new animal nutrition facility in Belgium

BELGIUM – Brenntag, a global leader in chemical and ingredient distribution, has officially opened a state-of-the-art facility for animal nutrition solutions in Mouscron, Belgium.

The new site, completed in July 2024 and operational as of September, will significantly enhance Brenntag’s capacity to deliver high-quality animal nutrition products, particularly in Western Europe.

This new facility is designed to produce products based on Brenntag’s proprietary Neubacid Soft technology. This technology allows feed producers to improve animal performance without compromising on safety or efficacy.

The facility’s advanced capabilities also support the growing demand for non-antibiotic diets in animal nutrition, offering innovative solutions to the industry.

Strategically located in Mouscron, the facility benefits from excellent logistical connections, including proximity to major ports, highways, and customers throughout the region.

The Mouscron site consolidates Brenntag’s mixing and blending operations. At the same time, the company’s Grez-en-Bouère facility in France will continue to serve as a central storage hub for the French market.

The Mouscron facility boosts Brenntag’s flexibility and production capacity, improving delivery capabilities and enabling larger purchasing volumes, a critical advantage in raw material shortages.

Built to meet the highest quality standards, the facility has already achieved GMP+ certification, ensuring that all operational processes adhere to stringent industry regulations.

Wouter Vullings, Director of Animal Nutrition EMEA at Brenntag, highlighted the significance of the new facility: “Our new state-of-the-art Animal Nutrition facility allows us to fulfil the needs of our customers in France, Benelux, the UK, Ireland, and the DACH region, both quantitatively and qualitatively, not only today but also in the future. Mouscron’s geographical location and proximity to many of our customers make it an ideal site for us.”

This expansion represents a key step in Brenntag’s efforts to optimise its site network, enhance its ability to serve animal nutrition markets across Europe and support its long-term growth strategy.

Brenntag is the leading global distributor of chemicals and ingredients, committed to connecting customers and suppliers to profitable networks. Headquartered in Essen, Germany, the DAX company is active in 72 countries and employs more than 17,500 people.

This expansion in Belgium comes at a time when the Belgian animal feed industry is thriving, representing a turnover of 4.7 billion Euros which corresponds to 10% of the total food industry.

With these production figures, Belgium remains 7th on the list of largest animal feed-producing countries in the EU, according to the Belgian Feed Association.
